It was good to be able to celebrate Shrove Tuesday in Morley by once again ringing the Pancake Bell outside the building that was St. Mary’s in the Wood, Morley, United Reformed Church. A group of committed friends and curious passers-by carried on the tradition of ringing the bell from 11am to noon to remind folk to use all the fats and sugars in their pantry before the beginning of Lent (Ash Wednesday) – the next day. For once it was a sunny day and everyone enjoyed the pancakes being served in Unity Hall next door. Long may this tradition continue.
