St Mary’s Memory Café wins first prize in Leeds Outer Area South Community Heroes Award.
St Mary’s Memory Café was voted Community Organisation of the year and was presented with a certificate and trophy at Morley Town Hall last week.
The café is part of the mission of St Mary’s in the Wood for people with dementia and their carers; it started in February 2014 and has helped many Morley people over the last three years.
Heather Raistrick café leader and Elder at the church said we were extremely honoured that local people nominated the café for the award and more importantly we were delighted that we were able to achieve the most votes to win the award. We will continue our hard work working with people with dementia and their carers in the future. Heather would like to thank all those that nominated the café and those who voted for them. Special thanks should go to the volunteers Shirley Varley, Susan McGarroch . Jenny Milner and Wenda Whitehead
Heather Raistrick also gained second place in the volunteer of the year category of the awards.
The café meets the first Thursday the month 1.30pm at St Mary’s opposite Morley Library; the café dates for the remainder of the year are Thursday 2nd November and Thursday 7th December. Any further information about the café can be obtained by calling Heather on 07771572850.
