Work has finally got underway on our former building on Commercial Street to transform the 125 year old building into Morley’s Learning and Skills Centre.
The building was originally opened in January 1900 and paid for by the members of the St Mary’s in the Wood Church to accommodate the growing congregation of young people. The building has assisted the town in many years during the war it was requisitioned by West Riding County Council as a first aid and ARP centre due to the possibility of invasion. In more recent years Morley North Children’s Centre used some of the rooms when they were homeless. St Mary’s has always had a strong commitment to the town and by being sold to Leeds City Council to develop a Learning and Skills Centre we thought this was the best use of our magnificent Grade 2 listed building.

We are looking forward to see the building as work develops.

Heather our Church Secretary was invited to join various people to celebrate the start of the works .
