We would rather our fellowship be safe than sorry so we have regretfully cancelled our worship and our Memory Cafe for the time being.
Look out for announcements regarding future worship
Once again St Mary’s in the Wood have been able to perpetuate the century’s-old tradition of ringing the Pancake Bell. In days gone-by this was a reminder to the housewives of Morley that Lent was upon them and to empty their pantries of all but the most plain of foods to eat during the 40 days of Lent. This would have been the big bell in the belfry at St Mary’s in the Wood, tolling until only a few years ago, and now sadly a burnt-out shell.
Today, keeping the tradition alive a bell is rung on the steps on St. Mary’s in the Wood opposite the library and on Shrove Tuesday this year a jolly time was had, remembering, ringing the bell and eating pancakes. Join us next year??
